Government grants are the subsidies, cost-sharing programs, loans, incentives, and rebates which the government gives its citizens for carrying out various developmental and assistance activities mostly for non-profit and cultural ventures. One may ask, “do I need to repay them?” and the answer to that is ‘No’! These government grants are however not given to anybody for anything. One has to meet very detailed specifications and the government agencies monitor how the money is being spent. Canada grants are given out to citizens by agencies and foundations all over the country but most Canadians don’t even know such a system exists!
Many government grants are available for setting up and expansion of small businesses. Finance ranges between $1000 to $10 million for purposes of purchasing equipment, real estate, supplies, machinery, technical help, office lease, renovation, transport, and computer support. Canada grants are given for feasibility study programs which include financial, engineering and market analysis or a combination of all of them. Cost-sharing up to 75% of the total expenditure is done. A young entrepreneurs program is functional according to which the government of Canada gives grants up to $4000 to entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 29 to aid them in starting full-time businesses.
These government grants are given keeping in mind the development of society and hence are easily obtained by the projects which are beneficial for social and cultural development. Canada grants ranging up to $100,000 are available for women in Canada to assist the setting up and expansion of a business. Special grants named as Aboriginal Business Canada are available for clients of aboriginal heritage. The client can be First Nation, Métis or Inuit. Non-repayable funding up to $99,999 are presented per project. Many specific government grants have been designed to develop the First Nation, Inuit, and Metis communities.
The government of Canada has many government grants meant for research and development in various fields. Going Global Science and Technology Fund, External Research Program, NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), Moving on Sustainable Transportation Program (MOST), and Sustainable Development Innovations Fund (SDIF) are some of them. Another grant of the same nature is the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program which is a federal tax incentive program. It seeks to encourage businesses of all sizes in Canada to conduct reasearch and development to bring about improved and advanced products and processes.
Many government grants are available in the art and culture fields. There are funds to support Canadian music, visual arts, performing arts, film, television, and magazines. The artists or the art presenting organizations can present the proposal to the government and if the criteria are met they will be financially supported. Canada grants like the Multiculturism Program seek to promote ethno-racial diversity and encourage participation of the minorities in the public decision-making.
Environmental causes are given special emphasis and any organization or group which wants to carry out projects on innovative means of waste reduction and pollution control can get assistance up to $50,000 once the proposal is approved by the Ministry of Conservation.
About the Author

Deeply Canadian $6.99 A book for everyone who is interested in naval history, Deeply Canadian: New Submarines for a New Millennium tells the story of how Canada nearly lost her submarine service in the 1990s after decades of dedicated duty.” Written in a clear and concise style, Deeply Canadian is informative and does not resort to technical jargon to make its point — highly recommended.” Cdr. Michael Young, CD, (Ret), contributing editor, Maritime Affairs.Canada has a tradition of undervaluing her armed services and her navy has been no exception. However Canada’s small submarine service has had the toughest fight to stay alive of any branch in her military. Over the last fifteen years it has been an on-again, off-again proposition but, in 1998, the government gave the Silent Service its reprieve when Cabinet approved the acquisition of four new submarines to replace the aging Oberon class boats.Beginning where the successful Through a Canadian Periscope (Dundurn 1995) left off, Deeply Canadian explains why Canada is acquiring new submarines at the turn of a millennium that, for the moment at least, does not look like suffering another world war. An enjoyable, jargon-free read, it recounts the latest, bedeviled submarine acquisition against the backdrop of Canada’s submarine heritage and naval/ political history. Deeply Canadian also explores why conventionally-powered submarines are a realistic choice for Canada and what the new four Victoria class boats will add to the country’s security and NATO in the 21st century. |

Reflections on Canadian Character $22.99 In Reflections on Canadian Character: From Monarch Park to Monarch Mountain , Bob Couchman offers a critical examination of Canada’s social-welfare state and its evolution. The story begins in the 1940s in Monarch Park, a working-class neighbourhood where the community provided assistance and care when people were in need, and government programs were viewed as a temporary helping hand for those who were destitute or suffering. In the 1950s and 1960s, government expanded its social-welfare agenda and Canadian attitudes began to change. Social programs that were intended to provide short-term aid came to be viewed as a universal right, something all Canadians were entitled to, regardless of need or financial situation. Couchman witnessed first-hand the effects of this shift away from collective responsibility and toward individual entitlement. While Canadians increasingly depend on government for aid, many programs fail to provide adequate support. Such failures, combined with the fundamental change in the character of Canadians, threaten our very future as a caring society. |

Canadian Nuclear Weapons $23.99 “We are thus not only the first country in the world with the capability to produce nuclear weapons that chose not to do so, we are also the first nuclear armed country to have chosen to divest itself of nuclear weapons.” Pierre Trudeau United Nations, 26 May 1978 From 1963 to 1984, US nuclear warheads armed Canadian weapons systems in both Canada and West Germany. It is likely that during the early part of this period, the Canadian military was putting more effort, money, and manpower into the nuclear commitment than any other single activity. This important book is an operational-technical history and exposÈ of this period. Its purpose is to bring together until-recently secret information about the nature of the nuclear arsenal in Canada, and combine it with known information about the systems in the US nuclear arsenal. The work begins with an account of the efforts of the Pearson government to sign the agreement with the US necessary to bring nuclear weapons to Canada. Subsequent chapters provide a detailed discussion of the four nuclear weapons systems deployed by Canada: the BOMARC surface-to-air guided interceptor missile; the Honest John short range battlefield rocket; the Starfighter tactical thermonuclear bomber; the VooDoo-Genie air defence system. Each chapter also includes a section on the accidents and incidents which occurred while the weapons were at Canadian sites. The final chapter covers the ultimately futile efforts of the Maritime Air Command and the Royal Canadian Navy to acquire nuclear weapons. An appendix includes the text of the until-now secret agreements Canada signed with the USA for the provision of nuclear weapons. Illustrated throughout with photographs and diagrams, and supported by extensive transcriptions of original documents, Canadian Nuclear Weapons will be of great value both to scholars and interested laypersons in its presentation of what has been a deeply hidden secret of Canadian political |

God and Government in the Ghetto $22 In recent years, as government agencies have encouraged faith-based organizations to help ensure social welfare, many black churches have received grants to provide services to their neighborhoods’ poorest residents. This collaboration, activist churches explain, is a way of enacting their faith and helping their neighborhoods. But as Michael Leo Owens demonstrates in God and Government in the Ghetto, this alliance also serves as a means for black clergy to reaffirm their political leadership and reposition moral authority in black civil society. Drawing on both survey data and fieldwork in New York City, Owens reveals that African American churches can use these newly forged connections with public agencies to influence policy and government responsiveness in a way that reaches beyond traditional electoral or protest politics. The churches and neighborhoods, Owens argues, can see a real benefit from that influence—but it may come at the expense of less involvement at the grassroots.Anyone with a stake in the changing strategies employed by churches as they fight for social justice will find God and Government in the Ghetto compelling reading. |

Second Treatise of Government $6.45 The “Second Treatise” is one of the most important political treatises ever written and of the most far-reaching in its influence. In his provocative 15-page introduction to this edition, the late eminent political theorist C. B. Macpherson examines Locke’s arguments for limited conditional government, private property, and right of revolution and suggests reasons for the appeal of these arguments in Locke’s time and since. “Macpherson provides for his readers a tightly written, meaty, and often invigorating critical assessment of Locke’s argument. In it one finds some of the best of Macpherson’s now famous criticism of liberal-democratic government.” Gregory E. Pcyrz in Canadian Philosophical Review |

My spouse and i have actually already been looking into solar for about a year and as a result we conclusively made the investment based upon on the combination of governtment incentive options not to mention extremely economical financing. My spouse and i have now been looking into solar energy for approximately a twelve months and as a consequence my partner and i eventually made the actual investment based mainly upon the pairing of governtment incentive options and in addition seriously economical lending. I honestly can’t imagine how reasonable everything turned out and my partner and i will have ended up being a new solar household for approximately a month and furthermore everything seem to be like it is working out very good. We are able to essentially view how much electricity our organization aer reducing every single day along with it is definitely very marvelous. I alway suspected that solar energy was backed because of a large amount of hoopla however , My partner and i can convey everyone the fact that the product is the genuine deal. My partner and i wish we had implemented it years ago.

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.
