In 1953 the Department of Health, Education and Welfare grew to become a cabinet degree department in the United States. In 1979 the Department of Education Business Act split HEW into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. HHS is accountable for the health, wellbeing and nicely-being of residents of the United States. This mandate also extends internationally for cross-border health and security problems.
HHS administers over 300 applications with a spending budget of through $737 billion. HHS mission includes a extensive variety of human problems, including substance abuse, Medicare and Medicaid, childrens health, health disparities, sickness prevention and health promotion. It is the largest grant-creating department inside of the Federal Government.
In 1979 the Department of Health and Human Services established the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization to create and implement outreach to the small company community. The Office performs its mission via small enterprise fairs, procurement conferences, trade group seminars, conventions and forums.
The Office of Small Company Improvement, also called OSDBU, is host to Vendor Outreach Sessions that take place twice month-to-month. The purpose of these periods is to introduce and educate sellers on the small enterprise method and to offer them information so that they can efficiently marketplace their items and services to HHS.
The Department of Health and Human Services is the only executive agency wherever Small Company Pros report to the OSDBU Director. These Small Enterprise Experts are positioned within just the eleven agencies of HHS.
Each day, these Professionals function with Contracting and Method Office staff, so as to figure out the best acquisition method; they also perform to make their method unified so that when suppliers deal with Health And Human Services, this unity will benefit them.
Presently, HHS does not provide grants or loans to aid small enterprises get heading, but it is in truth the biggest group to make grants inside the federal government. It has more than 300 grant plans these days, and it handles mission-particular subjects, which are in turn delegated amongst the numerous HHS operating organizations. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance profiles all Federal grant applications; these provide economic assistance and contain HHS applications. In add-on, distinct factors of get in touch with for getting applications or further information are also offered.
Distributors who are interested in carrying out business with Health And Human Services do not have to have any unique certification, but rather, the Small Company Administration gives certification to firms beneath the Organization Advancement System, the Historically Underutilized Company Zone Method, and the Small Deprived Company System. Businesses that are Ladies-Owned, Veteran Owned, Service Disabled Veteran Owned, or Small Businesses are usually managed with self-certification. Self-certification is not challenged unless or right up until an interested party or competitor offers protest to it. In inclusion, an HHS Contracting Officer might request that the SBA provide a size determination.

The Business of Being an Artist $22.48 Fine artists are taught many things about the craft of art in the various art schools and university art programs, but rarely do they learn much if anything about how to make a career of their talents. "The Business of Being an Artist "contains information on how artists may develop a presence in the art world that leads to sales. The book contains information on how artists can learn to sell their work directly to the public with an understanding of the principles of marketing and sales as they’re applicable to works of art. Artists will also learn how to find a suitable gallery that will arrange sales and commissions and how to set up a contractual relationship with the dealer that is both equitable and profitable. Among the topics covered in "The Business of Being an Artist "are: the range of exhibition opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists; how to set prices for artwork; when or if artists should pay to advance their careers; how artists may communicate with the public; applying for loans, grants, and fellowships; areas of the law that concern artists; using art materials safely; online sales and marketing, and much more. In addition to all of this priceless information, "The Business of Being an Artist "includes a unique discussion of some of the emotional issues that face artists throughout their careers, such as working alone, confronting stereotypes, handling criticisms and rejection, the glare of publicity, and the absence of attention. Without a doubt, "The Business of Being an Artist "is a must-have book for every artist ready to turn their talent into a successful business. |

The Origins of Universal Grants $100 Should all young adults receive a capital grant? Should all individuals be given a lifetime regular income? Would either form of payment be just or unjust? These questions figure prominently in recent social philosophy and policy discussions on ’stakeholding’ and ‘basic income’. Both types of proposal have a long, but largely unknown history. This anthology contains a wide variety of historical contributions, some of which are presented in English for the first time, highlighting striking parallels between past and present debates. |

This Is a Business $16.96 A man named Turtletaub decides to start a business, but has no idea what product he will sell or what service he will supply in this absurdist philosophical comedy. Turtletaub (Nathan Nolan) leads a joyless existence working an unfulfilling job. He’s never amounted to much, and odds are he never will. But when Turtletaub gets the itch to become a businessman, he hires an assistant and a salesman and rents some office space. Now if Turtletaub could only maintain his focus long enough to determine exactly what it is that his business will do, he may finally achieve his dream of becoming a self-made man. Trouble is, that Jews for Jesus group downstairs is making so much noise that Turtletaub can’t even hear himself think, much less draw up a meaningful business plan. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Estimating the Cost of Administering the Department of Defense Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program $9.95 Congress is in the process of reauthorizing the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which expires in 2008. One issue being considered in the reauthorization is whether to allow partial use of SBIR set-asides for SBIR program administration costs and, if so, at what levels. Currently, the use of SBIR funds to administer the SBIR program is prohibited, and SBIR administration must be funded from other sources. The authors estimate that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) spends, on average, an additional 6 percent on top of the SBIR set-asides to administer its SBIR program. That percentage is higher than that for government programs that predominantly award grants (rather than contracts), at or lower than levels for other government R&D programs, and lower than the total compensation levels for venture-capital organizations. Further analysis is required to understand the benefits of alternative levels of administrative investments for the DoD SBIR program. |

No Business $13.58 After their excursion into pure industrial/white noise, Death Sentences of the Polished and Structurally Weak, the Floptops return with another in their irregular but continuing meditations on the nature of copyright, patriotism, and artistic reinterpretation. In that sense No Business is one of the least surprising albums Negativland has yet done, but one entity’s repetition is another’s source of continuing inspiration, and the end results are familiarly entertaining. It’s not much less that this type of approach can be done so much as it is how it is done — and on that front all is well. From the opening chop-up of the Beatles’ “Because,” retitled “Old Is New,” the sense is that of old pros — however much they might shy away at the thought — are once again at their craft. The most pointed and involved piece, the nearly ten-minute long “Downloading,” finds the band turning their collective eye once again on music industry paranoia, with everything from disgraced Grammy president Michael Green’s self-righteous waffling about the activity’s supposed evils, to found sound sources ranging from the BBC to an ‘unknown death metal band’ (plus previous target The Little Mermaid). Queasy, collapsing about the edges and hilarious, it’s a tour de force of sonic chaos and mockery. The other extended effort, “Piece a Pie,” takes an old radio drama as the source and turns a scene in a coffee shop into a Sartrean-into-Mobius nightmare. At other points favorites from recent live performances take a bow — “Favorite Things” takes “The Sound of Music” — Julie Andrews signature number — and with careful editing makes her praise such odd concepts as “schnitzel on roses” and “ponies in dresses.” In a similar vein, the title track takes two versions of the Ethel Merman classic “There’s No Business Like Show Business” — the original and the bizarro late-’70s disco remake — to create a collage where Merman appears to happily praise theft of all sorts. ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi |
